The carbs where leaking into the air box pritty bad, and the petcocks that came with NO OFF option!, where leaking into the motor threw the vacume line, so i was searching online for some aftermarket petcocks; with an off option; and ran acrost www.xs750e.com , that guy has a really nice write up on how to make your petcocks manual without vacume and have an off option. Now my petcocks have: res, on/pri,and OFF
cleaning the carbs didn't turn out so perfect, i got most of the carbs apart, and was popping out the pin that holds the floats on and snapped one of the cast ears off!! so i got online and searched for a cheap set of carbs but turns out those are not cheap. so i thought "what do i have to loose" so i just went to town and got some aluminum rods for my stick welder to weld it back on. It welded perfectly, lol
I'm not posting pics of my petcock manual conversion because there is some good ones at WWW.xs750e.com. but here is a picture of my welded ear in my carb. it isent a very good picture i took it with my iphone.

shortened up the mufflers
the bike is pretty quiet, and that doesn't bother me any, but the fact that the mufflers go all the way past the back wheel looks ridiculous to me, so i checked online for some aftermarket ones and they just seemed like to much money. so i decided i would just cut them and make them shorter , that was a lot more difficult that i expected because of all the chambering in the mufflers, now they have the stock baffling and no chambering, and it took alot to welding to make them look factory again. my bike now sounds like a V6 Chevy Beretta!
you can see in the picture how much i cut off. seems like alot

bad bearings
The headset bearings where feeling almost seized. Someone had the headset way-way to tight and the bearings where all rusty. When i had the front wheel off i noticed that the bearings in the front wheel where just destroyed they where brown, burned up and almost seized.
The bearings where a pain in the but to get out of both the head set and the front wheel.
not really a very good picture.

the day i got my 1978 xs 750 E
i had been looking for a xs 1100 but ran across an add for this xs750 triple really clean and low miles,15,000 miles on it.so i went to check it out, and bought it. Definitely a clean bike, clean enough to eat off of ,lol!! this is a really cool bike; 750 cc three cylinder with 75 hp stock, and is shaft driven with duel disk brakes in front and single disk in the rear, and weighs 515lb. first year without points(thats nice) and a 9,000 rpm limit, and a 9.5:1 compression ratio. with DOHC, 2valve per cylinder. very impressive acceleration! I love the way the tank and seat look, makes that bike look really cool, and that cafe style thing behind the seat is pretty sweet too.
